Periodontal (Gum) Disease Treatment
Dr. Dawn Bloor explains Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease occurs because of the reaction of the bacteria that normally inhabit your mouth and how your body responds to it.
Early gum disease –gingivitis is usually easily treatable with professional cleaning and good oral hygiene.
Periodontitis occurs when the disease begins to attack the gum attachment and bone supporting the teeth. It usually begins as a painless process, that will not become noticeable to you until you notice teeth get loose, or there is spontaneous pain or bleeding.
Gum treatment is primarily focused on controlling the bacterial infection that is part of the disease. This can be limited to a thorough cleaning of the roots and gum pockets or may require gum surgery to repair lost bone attachment.
LANAP – Laser Periodontal Therapy is a new procedure that has been shown to be effective in managing Gum Disease. It is the FDA approved No Scalpel • No Stitches treatment for Chronic Gum Disease
